Simple Fix for Used Laptops Slow Boot up

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Slow start up times on laptop computers may be caused by old network drives that are no longer needed. Occasionally we have seen used laptops and customer laptops that would pass all tests and diagnostics yet still suffer from extremely slow boot ups. While in the beginning of the troubleshooting process there are common starting points that need to be looked at, the initial idea is to determine whether the likely cause of this is due to a hardware or a software problem.

There is one not very common yet worthwhile thing to check before proceeding to any in depth diagnostics unless that is part of that particular procedure, which may be done anyway, and that is to take a look for any network drives which may be holding things up. Windows will try to connect to the network drive during the boot process and if it cannot make the connection, it is going to wait. The real problem with this is that Windows will continue to wait so that the entire process in basically stuck in this state.

When this is setup on a laptop computer there is an option to set it to reconnect at logon. Yet if you are sure that you do not need this, you may consider not choosing this, or in this example disconnecting. This will remove the need for the operating system on the used laptop to wait on a connection from another drive, which may not exist at all if you are not actually on the network.

  • Start
  • My Computer
  • Tools Menu
  • Disconnect Network Drive

When you know that the drive is unnecessary this can be a super easy fix to a really bothersome problem. We all like our cheap laptops under 100 to be as fast and responsive as any computer that we use. Although this is not a common issue, sometimes used laptops that have not had the operating system reinstalled fresh will have old configurations such as this that are simple to resolve.

Selling Laptops under 100 for Newer Technology

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

For many of the laptops which have been developed over the years to provide reliable performance levels, they have surprised people by lasting as long as some of the have. If you were to ask a random selection of people about the projected lifespan of their laptop computer then they might say that it would not be all that long. The reality is that this has a great deal to do with how the computer is taken care of over time. Obviously a well taken care of used laptop will have a far greater chance of working far longer than one which was not so well taken care of.

Laptops Under 100

When the more popular laptop models have been around for a while, people seem to get used to them, yet the really good ones are thought to be well worth keeping longer than what some folks normally would do. However there are quite a few computer users who will actually trade off or simply sell their used laptops because they want to have the latest models which have been released. The reasoning behind this can be traced back to not the performance of the laptop, but the fact that the person just has an intrinsic need to have the absolute most cutting edge technology which has been released.

For the people who fit this bill, they are often in quite a hurry to acquire the newest features that are available in notebook computers no matter what the cost. Often the price tags for these are surprisingly high compared to what more modest examples will fetch. When a person like this needs to get their hands on the latest machines they are usually going to trade or sell the old laptop. Sometimes if the computer really is a bit older, then they might be sold as used laptops under 100 dollars from the original owner who simply wants a fast sale. Some of the really great buys have been had based on scenarios such as this. Although the used laptops were actually worth a whole lot more than simply $100 in the end, at least everyone seems to wind up happy with the transaction and that is all that really matters when it is all said and done.

Laptops and Component Similarities

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Among the many similarities which exist in the lower priced used laptops are going to be standard specifications which will be representative of the maker and the specific line. For example some of the older used Dell Latitude laptops for in the $100 dollar price range may have variations of the Intel Pentium M processors where the speeds reflect each slight increase in the original price ranges. The Pentium M Sonoma running at 2.0 GHz is an example of where the laptop even in used condition will typically bring more than only 100 dollars but the variations below this particular clock speed may still sell for under this price.

The same concept will be present with respects to the video cards, hard drive sizes, total screen size and other common specifications. In many instances the older the laptop is then the cheaper it will ultimately be valued as far as resale goes. Even with the laptops under 100 dollars there are going to be some excellent representations of formerly top of the line examples of the technology at hand at the time they were originally manufactured. With the ever present intuitive layout of all laptop computers the fact that the internal components vary from one to the other is only relative to their usefulness in their intended applications. Most people prefer to use a laptop mainly to take advantage of the complete portability which they offer.
